Recommendations on type and weight oil for 97 tj 5 speed transmission, transfer case and front and rear differential. Also will I need the additive in my differential ? regular dino oil or synthetic? i think I have the Dana 35 rear axle with the 411 gears front and rear ofcourse . It has the rubber plug in the cover . Thanks in advance

Your transmission is fussy about the type of transmission gear lube it will run well on, I'd use (and did use) nothing but Redline MT-90 which you can get on Amazon.com like at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003P550IE/?tag=wranglerorg-20 . That's a GL-4 75W90 synthetic gear lube which the transmission was spec'd for.

Your transfer case requires ATF, any type of ATF like ATF+4 is fine.

All (ok, 99.99%) GL-5 gear lubes like your axles require will already have the additive needed by a rear axle's Tracloc limited slip differential, if your rear axle even has one which by now its clutch pack would be completely worn out by now... they only last 40-50k miles. A conventional GL-5 gear lube will help your axle gears run cooler than they would with a synthetic gear lube. Yes, that is true. A 75W-90 or 80W-90 is fine for normal uses, or you can use a heavier viscosity like 80W-120, 85W-140, etc. if you tow a trailer. The exact viscosity gear lube in the axles is not critical.

Keep in mind that the lubricants you use keep all the money you put into your Jeep from being wasted so it is kinda smart to protect moving parts with the best products, not the cheapest.
Look up what you need here:

Ok i will just insert this link. This guy did alot of testing on a bunch of oils. It is long and very technical. This is no cheat sheet that says what is the best. But it breaks down oils in many ways.

Disclaimer***** i have yet to finish reading this article. I have no relationship with the author. And i will still use 10w30 conventional oil regardless of what reports say. It has worked well for a hundred years. It will work for 100 more.

If you agree with Boinked .... remove the 'modern' computer from your Jeep.

Hell, remove every computer from your life.
Im not saying that newer engines dont need specific oils. I used synthetic blend motorcraft oil in both my fords. But the 4.0l is a tractor/tank engine (i just learned about the tank) they have been running over 400k miles with conventional oil. I just dont see the cost benefit of using synthetic oil when it wasn't designed for it. It is not a 800 horsepower race motor. The tolerances are not tight like modern motors. While it was last produced in 2006. The same block (for the most part) was used dating back to WW2.

If we are talking the new JK/JL motors hell yeah use the best money can by.
