'98 TJ with 4.0 and AUTOMATIC. Looking for a new crank position sensor but pulling my hair out with part #'s.
The old mopar parts catalog lists the crank sensor as 56027869AC
The number I can read on the original sensor appears to be 56 - - - 868AC ( I'm guessing the missing numbers are 027 )

Using my VIN online it shows the parts catalog 56027869AC number as discontinued but supersession to 4897321AB.
Searching with 56027868AC shows a supersession to 56027868AD
Some references such as RockAuto show 4897321AA for the automatic, which supersedes to 4897321AB,
which then supersedes to either 4897189AA or 56027868AD with no distinction made of which one to use.

Anyone know which one is correct? I'm leaning 56027868AD since that is the direct supersession of my factory sensor.

56027868AD seems like a good idea. you could also call the dealer see what they pull up,

Dealer wasn't much help, looked up the catalog and just referenced the 56027869AC as discontinued.
Asked about the 56027868AC on my sensor and confirmed it supersedes to 56027868AD but can't confirm if that's right for my '98 with auto.

welp give it a shot with ur gut and keep the receipt figure out the warranty. if i recall its a very easy sensor to replace right on the bell housing.

Rockauto sells genuine mopar.
The point I was trying to make in my previous post is to call and ensure the Mopar part is actually in stock.
I have purchased many factory parts from Rock Auto since around 2000, but this past year even though Mopar parts are advertised IN STOCK; they are either back ordered or not available.

4897321AB rock auto has them for $100.
I looked at RA and they list the 4897321AA for the automatic, but in the info tab:

"Alternate/OEM Part Number(s): 4897189AA, 4897321AB, 56027868AC, 56027868AD, 56027869AC"

That's every single number I've been researching. I'm starting to think these are just different numbers for the exact same part.

For what it's worth RA lists the manual transmission crank sensor as 56027865AB (which matches the factory parts catalog) with alternate/OEM parts numbers 56027865, 56027867AB, 56041819AA, 56041820AA, 68281273AA, 68407888AA, none of which have come up in my search for an automatic crank sensor.

Sounds like a government contractor.
