Dangling Sensor Wire

Hi All - I'm new to the Forum and it has been a godsend helping me to diagnose issues a 1997 TJ i just purchased. I found a loose wire with a 2-wire male connector hanging in the rear of the engine compartment. I can't find anything to attach it to. Anybody know what it's for?

Thanks Zack, I'll check that out. Do you by chance know how it turns on? Is it actuated by a switch on the hood? Or, manually?

It's turned on automatically by a switch inside the hood light that senses when the hood is raised.

...which means the power to that plug is always on.
Or should be.
