Differential Replace or Overhaul

I was getting a "clunking" sound every time I engaged a gear.

My mechanic opened up the rear diff (DANA 35) and this is what it looks like before brake cleaner:

Replace? Overhaul?

You might be able to get away with just replacing the spiders, you might need to replace the bearings, who knows. If I were you I'd replace the spiders and bearings.

Carrier and pinion bearings are recommended, but you will know more once the carrier is removed.
Spider gears are a definite, but again.... you will know more once the carrier is removed.
