Disable Speed Warning Chime

I've heard something about a chime that wouldn't go off before and the issue was the contacts on the front parking / indicator were corroded beyond function. Depending on the mood, either that light or the side marker didn't work since they are wired together.

I know it sounds crazy, but check your blinkers, with headlights lights on and off.

If you don't believe me about the blinker alarm, leave your blinker on for a mile without slowing down and see what happens.

OK, very funny. My Rubicon was built January 2003, I took delivery 2/10/03. The 4.0L is a stroker, the injectors are Jeep 24lb./hr, intake is AEM, 62mm throttle body, Banks cat back exhaust, 5 speed gearbox. Transfer case is in 2 high except when 4 wheeling. The chime is the same sound when the key remains in the ignition, or when the lights are on and the driver's door is opened.
Not any help here.

If the engine is a stroker, and you have all the aftermarket performance add-ons; could whoever installed those have put this 'chime' on then for some reason?

I am aware of the directional signal warning beep if left on too long. Directional signals and all lights work perfectly. And no one could have installed the chime/beep. When the Rubicon was just under 5 years old, the instrument panel was replaced under warranty. It is plug and play, not possible to insert wiring harness incorrectly.

The instrument cluster chime tone generator will generate repetitive chime tones at a slow rate to announce that a vehicle speed message input recieved from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) over the Programmable Communication Interface (PCI) data bus indicates that the vehicle speed is over 120 kilometers-per-hour (75 miles per-hour). The chimes will continue to sound until the vehicle speed message indicates that the vehicle speed is below 120 kilometers-per-hour (75 miles per hour). This feature is only enabled on an instrument cluster that has been programmed with a Middle East Gulf Coast Country (GCC) country code.

Nice find. Thanks for taking the time to look it up and post.
Stinger has been above 85 a c o u p l e of times and never cut out or chimed (my gauges are run from the jeep PCM) so I was really getting interested in this thread.

OP, did this start before or after the instrument cluster was replaced?

I have an '03 Rubicon and it has no chime at any speed and I have had it above 85 without a fuel pump cutoff. Maybe this was a one of a kind factory test or something.

The Jeep tech at the local dealership plugged in what is called a Drb3 (data readout box 3) to analyze the instrument cluster. No GCC or US codes were found. No error codes were found anywhere in my Jeep. One of the service writers at the dealership has a 2003 Rubicon and his Jeep has the speed warning beep at 75 mph. The Jeep tech is going to ask FCA.

Do you happen to have your headlights on at the time the chime starts?

For some reason my 06 Rubi starts to chime after a few minutes when I turn on the headlights. If I turn them off, the chiming stops.

This goes on for a few cycles and then finally stops.

My 05 LJ does the same thing with the lights on. Does it maybe 10% of the time.

I realize this is an Old Post, this happened to me the other day and I had my lights on and my right indicator light on the fender was burned out and my turn signal indicator on the dash stayed on with a steady glow , when I turned off my lights the chyme would stop, stopped at the auto parts store bought a new right Fender indicator lamp light installed it and everything went back to normal , turn signals worked and no more chime with lights on. I was driving 75 + mph on the freeway and didn't get any chime at or above this speed, engine never stopped at 85 mph either. When I read the post about this I went out and removed my indicator light, turned on headlights and right turn signal, dash ts stayed lit solid and a minute or two later driving down my road the chime came on until I shut the headlights off completely, stopped, reinstalled the indicator light and all was normal again. Sorry for the long post but I didn't see any comments to this, 2002 tj X
