Any appliance people here? Or more specifically solenoid valve experience? The patient is a KitchenAid dishwasher about 3 years old. This morning we woke up to water on the kitchen floor. There was a small trickle coming out of the fill port on the side and it filled the tub and over flowed. I shut off the supply, unplugged the DW and removed the solenoid valve but it seemed to be tightly closed as I could not blow air thru it and it would hold suction from the outlet end. So I took it out to the garage and connected it to a high pressure hose bib and rigged up a test wire.
I cycled it more than 50 times, each time it shut off completely. Next I re-installed it on the DW and turned on the water, plugged it in and there was no more water dribbling out of the fill port.
I can only surmise that the valve somehow got cocked in it's bore and didn't fully close that one time. It's hard to believe there was debris in it due to a very fine inlet screen on the solenoid valve. Not sure if I should replace the valve or if it was something else causing it to open slightly.
I'm going to try running it for a few days and watching to make sure it shuts completely off every time. Here's why: The one thing I should have done before removing it was to unplug the DW with the water supply still on to see if it was somehow getting enough power to let it leak. I am doubtful of that theory though as it is not a variable valve, it just slams full open when energized and full closed when de-energized. But without that test I can't rule out everything else.
