I am having my jeep gears changed right now and lockers installed. Shop says I might need a programmer for it now or it may not go over 30 mph will this be the case or no?

Uh, what? You will need to change to speedo gear in the tcase or get a programmer if you have a Rubicon to correct the speedometer. That is all.

Not sure what you are talking about. What year and model Wrangler, could you be asking about a speedometer programmer? Not being able to drive over 30 mph regardless is unlikely.

Ok your X won't need a programmer it just needs a replacement speedometer gear that takes 5 minutes to replace, it just snaps in. It won't affect how fast you can drive, it just affects the speedometer accuracy.

If your tire size is 35", you need a 39 tooth speedometer gear to recalibrate your speedometer for your new 4.88 gears.

@Jerry Little, this is what you need after the re-gear: HealTech Speedo Healer

I have one myself. It's literally plug-and-play. You plug it in and then you can set your speedometer to show the correct speed on the speedometer.

With 35" tires and 5.38 gears, mine was showing 70 mph on the speedometer, while my actual speed was 60 according to the GPS. Took me all of 30 seconds to program it, and now my speedo is accurate!

This works on BOTH Rubicon and non-Rubicon models.

Jerry , you will love the regear . You will love the improved fuel economy . It will actually be faster too. There's no limiter.

Like Jerry Bransford said it is only the rubicon that needs programming. I need to buy the five minute fix! A new speedo gear.
I drove it home and the hearing seems great!!! I only drove it 10 miles but when in overdrive on the auto trans it has power to pick up speed with no downshifting I loved it. Tomorrow I will have to check and be sure lockers are working
