Double lid for factory center console

Prior to '03, the center console did not have a subwoofer and was a large cavity to the bottom. When they introduced the subwoofer, they changed the console. My original 98 came with the bottomless pit but I swapped out a newer one and replaced the subwoofer with a BT8 from SoundOrdnance.

I'm assuming the OP has a console without the subwoofer or a early version.

Correct, no subwoofer in mine. It’s an 06 X

Wait a minute, for the guys with subwoofers that have a tray that sits on top of the subwoofer. Would that work with a console that doesn’t have the subwoofer? Maybe I can just get a tray that sits in there. I’d be OK with that

I have an 06 and placed this tray in mine. The pit drove me crazy as well. It came out of a Gerry can that is actually a tool box on the back of my Jeep. The tray almost fits, perfectly, but it works well enough that I can throw a few items in and retrieve them easily!

So, for the (lucky) guys that have the subwoofer and have a ton of room in the console is the speaker just exposed in there when you open the lid, or does it have the speaker enclosed differently? I have the 06 Rubicon with the sub in the center console. And just a tiny NONremovable tiny tray under the lid. So there ARE consoles with the sub that have tons of room?

I have an 06, the sub is out. I don’t believe there are subs that have a ton of room above them, I could be wrong.

could mold a tray out of kydex and hinge it to the inside of the console. Would look factory when closed, then open the factory console to reveal the tray, and then swing the tray up to get to the bottomless pit.

don't see why not, if you had the equipment.

kydex is super easy since all you have to have is a heat gun and a pair of gloves.
