Droning sound going over 30

Have you checked your pinion bearings and have you replaced the ujoints in the driveshafts?

Rear u joints were replaced about 6 months ago by a local indie shop.

I would assume they checked all drive line that would cause vibrations. I had tires balanced right before then.

This recently surfaced again but only on accelerating. As mentioned above the ball joints and steering linkage is all going in as soon as I have the time. The control arms will be on the list as well

Do not assume they did. I would get under there and check out the bearings and also inspect the transmission mount.

I thought you were running a Currie lift, complete with double adjustable control arms, Chris?

I am. I am referring to when I was running my OME lift, before I switched to the Currie lift.

So I'm speaking in past tense. I should have clarified that.

I remembered I was running a spare and that was about the only thing I could think of that had changed and could have caused such an abrupt change to the drive line vibrations.

Put the actual fixed tire back on I had repaired before the vacation trip a week ago

Voila.

Honestly, I'm not entirely sure. When I replaced mine I just went with these:

That seemed easier to me, because all the control arms already have the bushings in them.

I am probably going to buy these for the interim while I decide what I am going to do. My bushings are shot too. I was considering savvy with JJ, but probably way overkill for my use. I think I am finally getting old.

I hear ya! I have the Currie control arms now, but they are massive overkill for how I use my Jeep. I guess that wisdom comes with age!

Just ordered the Crowns from your link! The stockers I have now are shot, and they are cheap enough that even if I change my mind later, they are still worth it for now. They have to ride tons better than my worn out ones.

Good call. It's easier doing it this way too, as oppose to just doing the bushings. If you're are shot, these should make a big difference.

Hey Shane I have the same similar vibration going on only in acceleration with my TJ same around 35-40 mph. Did you ever get this remedied and figure out what exactly it was?

Might want to start a new thread. The original poster is no longer active.
Didn’t know that, I out of curiosity opened the rear diff tonight to see if I could find out why I have so much back lash and figured out I’m about 90% sure the pinion gear is shot. As well busted spider gears teeth and the carrier has visible wear marks from pinion shaft I believe.
