Kind of an off the wall question, but I figured there are a lot of intelligent people here that I can use as a resource. As some of you may know, I run a small/Medium sized machining company. We are a specialized cutting tool manufacturer (indexible inserts and tool holders). Predominately Carbide, but we also do PCD and CBN inserts. Very High tolerance work. Anyway, we operate on the "job Shop" philosophy where we quote and get a PO before we do any work and incur costs. Our current ERP is by ECI, called JobBOSS² (formerly Shoptech E2 before ECI bought them). I didn't pick this software (I just joined the company a year ago) and frankly, it SUCKS. It doesn't do anything really well. Financial reporting is terrible. On the support forums, most people recommend using Quicken instead of E2! We have completely moved away from using it to schedule jobs because of its limitations. Plus...its slow.
I'd like to start investigating a new system, but I only have experience with HUGE systems (like SAP or Epicor). Kinda wondering what else is out there. Anyone use a particular software solution in a job shop that they would recommend or steer away? I can google search, but hearing some actual user feedback will help focus my research.
Thanks
