Probably cost more to fix the tesla than to buy a new corolla
Companies like uber put taxi services out of business. I can see how they would do the same to car rental companies to a degree

To this day I still can't believe there are still taxis in operation, seriously who uses them anymore?
and not have to own a $1,200 PHOOOOOONNE to do so. Plus they're waiting outside of any airport.
certainly digging into their profits for sure, I'm sure I'm not the only one that has ditched renting cars since the advent of Uber
Well, whatever. I still wouldn't want to be saddled with one of the damn things - and I only pay $15/mo. Still, you're smarter than most - its a HUUUGE status symbol these days to have a $1,500 PHOOOOOONNE!!I don't own one of those either, the Uber button I push on my $199 iPhone works just fine. I know you want to believe that all iPhones cost $1,200 up front & $100+/month to operate, but that's just not reality. I've literally never paid more than $199 for one, I simply buy the (new in box) older versions that are the same as the newer versions but carry the stigma of being 'out of date', and my monthly service charge for unlimited everything is $35/mo, prices that are are pretty much on par with any traditional cell phone.
there's no question that's what it's all about for many people, & it's often those with the least ability to afford it that have the latest nonsense. I think I've had 3 or 4 in total, each spread out by several generations. Every time I get a new one I can't for the life of me figure out what it does differently than its dead cousin. They 'say' the cameras are better, the processors are faster, & other shit yet I can never discern the difference, other than their size. I'm sure the tech gets marginally better with each new incarnation, even so it means nothing to me, I get a replacement only because my current one died rather than any increase in performance, and knowing they're all the same my only consideration when picking the new one is the rock bottom price. I'll switch carriers too to get the 'new customer' price which is always lower than the current customer price.its a HUUUGE status symbol these days to have a $1,500 PHOOOOOONNE!!
Depending on what I’m doing we will either rent or Uber.
New Orleans you have to Uber. It’s too expensive to park a car in the quarter and you’re likely to get it broken into, damaged or stolen.
Vegas, NYC are other ones.
Any real driving or constant moving around I’ll still rent but I do get favorable rental rates through our company so that helps. I could rent a car for about the cost of Ubering from the airport to the French Quarter.
How long do you get out of one of them before it breaks or otherwise has to be replaced? The "accepted norm" is 2 or maybe 3 years. The TelCos have everyone convinced that they have to do this - what a racket. I know multiple people who - as the old saying goes - "Don't have a pot to piss in nor a window to throw it out of", but by Goddess they have that $1,500 flagship phone and an expensive data plan. Can't make rent, can't keep their car running, can't keep food on the table, but they have this "necessity" in their hands. My first cell phone lasted me 18 years until they turned off the old analog "G1" service - otherwise I'd still be using it today. Loved it. If I get 10 out of my current phone that I bought about a year ago, I'll be happy. The wireless technology is moving so fast now that that may not be the case, it'll be obsolete before it breaks.there's no question that's what it's all about for many people, & it's often those with the least ability to afford it that have the latest nonsense. This was me , I had a Razr V-3 and it worked well for me. Right up until the rat bastards turned off " G2 " service.
We will never live in the ," love it till it wears out " and buy another era again .
My experience is the batteries wear out long before the phone technology is worthless. Was a time when batteries were easy to swap but no longer. Now it has to go a shop for that and most aftermarket batteries are junk. So once my batteries are shot I just buy a new phone that is two steps behind the bleeding edge.
Yea, I turned out the lights for both G1 and G3. But "love it till it wears out" is still very much with us - as nothing lasts like it once did - household appliances are an excellent example.
Sad but true , I hope the Speed Queen Washer and Dryer We bought in 2014 are in it for the long haul. Happy New Year to you and your wife !

Mine have averaged about 4+ years before the battery is toast, so that pro-rates to about $50/year to own it plus the monthly service charge. I think a lot of people kill them faster due to non-stop ‘streaming’ & high usage of other apps that cycle the battery with higher frequency.
I’ve had an iPhone ‘10’ for about a year, I just looked it up to see it came out in 2017 so I’m about 5 years behind the curve. Before this I had a ‘6’ which is now a dedicated iPod plugged in out in the garage & connected to my stereo, it’s still good for that.
It’s primarily a business tool for me so I’m not sure what I’ll do when I retire & no longer need most of what it does, I’m a frugal bastard so that leans me towards going back to a cell though it’ll be tough to give up the GPS, the Uber app, & the million songs & photos stored in it for what amounts to a fairly nominal savings. If the price starts getting really jacked compared to cell phones or they stop selling the older versions that only a few of us want that’ll make the switch back a no brainer.
the last cell I had was a Razr, in between that & the iPhone I had a Blackberry, that thing was awesome until they started sending me threatening messages about the service being cut off then went belly up.
I also went Razr, Blackberry then iPhone.
When the iPhone 15 came out I traded in a fully working iPhone 7 (needed a nightly charge) and my 11 for 15’s. They gave me $1000 for each trade in and the new 15 pro max’s cost $1200 each. So it cost me $200 for the latest and greatest.
what's the monthly service on that? I've seen tons of deals over the years where you get the latest phone for free but you get bent over on the monthly service.
I was just poking around for fun, I'm probably 3 years out from needing a new one, but Walmart has some pretty good deals that are right up my alley, an SE for $149 & $25/mo service; I'd be all over that if I needed one today because my current carrier is now jacking existing customers for 'retail' price to upgrade, only new customers get the super cheap price. I know they all play that game but fuck them for trying to fuck their own customers. When the time comes I'll abandon them for a rock bottom price elsewhere, then 4 years hence I'll return as a new customer again if their deal is good & I'm still in the game.
It's funny that they think there's loyalty, or maybe they're just counting on stupidity.
Loyalty is a two-way street, if you want it from me don't piss down my back & tell me it's raining.
