"I can't believe the discounts American's are getting for new EVs..."

View attachment 487122

giving me a 'great discount' on a car that's obnoxiously priced to begin with along with all the other well known problems this whole industry has isn't as attractive as it sounds Mr. Viking.

Price them on par with ICE cars, clean up the mismatched charging situation, get the price of a replacement battery under control or address it with supercharged warranties, ramp up range and speed up charging times & then they'll start flying off the shelves without government mandates

And dump the bullshit "technology", no instruments, huge tablets, built in cell MODEMs, etc, etc.

400 watts at 48v switch power for accessories, really wish our vehicle manufacturers would have listened to engineers and done this years ago in petrol vehicles.

I just got back from a trip to Hawaii (Oahu). Basically, you can't get a rental car from the typical companies unless you shell out huge money. Sometimes not even then.

We rented a Turo from a guy there who now owns and rents 9 cars. Ours was an older Ford Exploder.

The island is small so we didn't use much gas driving every day, but I noticed the only EV charging station I saw was wrapped in caution tape and out of service. I didn't look very hard, but I filled up that day at a gas station. Glad I wasn't relying on that charger.

Just a random data point with some rental car info.

this is an evolving issue with Hertz, they apparently went full retard into EVs only to learn that people didn't want to rent them. They ended up doing longer term rentals to ride share folks at about 50% of their otherwise going rate just to get the things out the door & on the road returning something on their massive investment. Apparently now they're dumping some altogether. Nor surprising, they're reading the same writing on the wall as the rest of us

I rented a tesla from Hertz at the last minute it was all they had left. Well unlike APP I hated it, I'm renting a car again from Hertz but it's going to be a gas model this time.

I looked and don't see any good deals. Maybe when I can pick up an AWD for $15k that has less than 50k miles I'll be interested.

Buy another one for $15k if that happens

For 15k you're going to be buying ones with a lot of age and mileage on them I suspect.

If they ever get to 15k I'll be shocked if they aren't high mileage and well over a decade old (at which point the battery is highly suspect).

You keep replacing that entire vehicle for 15k while you can replace most ICE engines for 5-7k depending.
