I think I understand where the divide is, and this is in no way saying you're incorrect.
Reasons you listed are the exact reason my TJ is MY personal vehicle.
I prefer the rawness, and the simplicity of it.
However, we take the VW back and forth from CO to SC, so all of that modern 'junk' makes the miles a LOT more bearable/enjoyable.
If I swap places with what I use my TJ for, and what I use my VW for, I wouldn't want the amenities of the VW in my TJ, and vice versa.

Complaigning about excessive tech in vehicles has nothing to do with computer or cell phone use. It's an attempt to take an "okay boomer" shot at people.
The longer you've been here the more you'd have known how smart we actually are when it comes to tech and that most are good at evaluating tech costs versus return on investment.
Maybe next you'll give some tips to MrBlaine in how to set up rough country lift on a TJ.

You also don't know me from Adam and I suspect I've been on various Jeep forums longer then most. It's not a strawman argument. I just find it funny that there is still an aversion to technology when it comes to the inevitable progression of automobiles, phones, TVs, computers, etc. Like you I also worked in IT - a LONG time ago. I remember the grousing about laptops, and Novell, and GUI, etc. etc.....
CJ guys grouse about YJs, and both grouse about TJs...TJ guys grouse about XJs. It's like Glock and Colt. Never-ending..

All of the above. Smartphones are the worst thing ever invented. Mediocre phone and a HORRID computer. Expensive, short lived, fragile, and not particularly good at most of the things it can do. Now this bullshit has migrated to everything else. No thank you.
By bullshit do you mean a radio, air conditioning, power locks and windows, keyless entry, and power steering?
There are only two "extras" I want on a car: Air conditioning and cruise control. I can take or leave a radio, power locks/windows are stupid and un-wanted, keyless entry is an answer to a question nobody was asking (one of my cars has it, BFD), and power steering is really only needed on larger vehicles - and I know how to drive even a large truck that doesn't have it. Yea, I'd prefer it on a vehicle like that, but it isn't a necessity.

Sounds like bullshit from a bunch of pot heads - BUT - if it isn't, expect it to be suppressed and/or outlawed.
I had a couple really nice VWs a ways back, bought a 95 Golf Sport brand new, what a great car that was, also leased a 95 Jetta for the wife. Always thought they were great driver's cars, drove like tanks. Been a long time since I've owned a German car & if they had the reliability of the tin can Japanese cars I switched to they'd dominate the world.
Progression is fine, I enjoy my fair share of technology that evolved over time. One of the things that gets me though is progression for progression sake, changes that don't improve the product but are deemed necessary by the manufacturer for marketing/new sales purposes, the very definition of consumerism gone off the rails. One example that comes to mind is Microsoft Word, that program was perfected for my purposes I don't know, 7 versions ago? Since then it's only gotten more complicated and less user friendly. Does it have 300 more features than it did, probably, does anyone actually use all that, probably not many at all. But Gates gets to sell millions of new subscriptions so it all works out
One of the more modern technologies in cars I find to be redundant & useless are these sensors & sirens that go off if you veer out of your lane, irritating at the very least. I've somehow avoided drifting into other lanes and killing myself for the past 40 years without such critical assistance because I know how to turn my head and use my mirrors... adding these types of technologies only makes us dumber and lazier than we already are, and from what I've seen we don't need any more help in that regard.
Technologies in daily drivers I couldn't do without are power steering/brakes, heat/air, stereo, keyless entry, and a heated seat, gets cold here in Saltopia.
I simply believe that sometimes things do reach a point of functional perfection & oughta be left alone, more complications and more expense don't necessarily translate into more happiness, rather diminishing returns.
But I get that I'm in the minority on this, the American consumer has spoken and what they've said is they want all the bullshit imaginable, and the manufacturers have responded by giving it to them. Sadly though those same Americans are now also screaming they can't afford cars anymore, those evil manufacturers are screwing us

I'm actually pretty happy with all the technology in my truck, it's my only vehicle that really has technology but it works and works well.
We have a few normal passenger vehicles and a side-by-side registered and plated as an Ag. Vehicle that we can take on the roads within 10 miles.
I would love to have something in between just for shuttling into town that has a windshield, better road manners and more passenger capacity. The problem is those side by sides now even cost as much as a 1/4 ton truck.
I have to believe there’s a market for a tweener vehicle that could be electric, ideally a polymer frame so it won’t rust out, and under $10k. Just seats, lights, a horn, and motor that gets you places and back and can be plugged into household 110v when not in use to stay charged.
A simple vehicle like that could sell for wider use but maybe not enough of a market for a major car mfg to jump on it.

Even the things it is good at, are better done with something else that is going to be cheaper and less hassle in the long run. GPS comes to mind - a dedicated GPS and a Phone GPS are pretty much the same thing - except for the price tag and the nuisance of dealing with the PHOOOOOONNE. They're also OK for watching hickok45 videos on yootoob, but why would I bother?

My phone tells me where the police are, when there's an object on the road, when there are cars parked on the side of the road, calculates the fastest route based on current traffic and closures etc.
To a degree. When choice is removed by the CarCos, people are stuck with the crap. I cannot tell you the number of people I've talked to who would avoid the bullshit if they could. Many aren't as virulent about it as I am, but they'd still buy a car without "technology" - oh to be sure most would probably still want power door locks/windows (like my wife for one) and similar garbage, but wouldn't want the rest of it. The CarCos have learned VERY well from the TelCos/CableCos - the robber barons of our time. Virtually everyone I know is now streaming because doing so gives them back the choice that was taken from them - ala carte pricing. Whatever - the MBZ is in the shop having new front end bushing pressed into the control arms, a $1,600 job. About two months payments/insurance on a new vehicle - I'll glady pay it to avoid the hassle and cost.
I agree with this. We never use the nav in my wifes car, instead we always use one of our phones. It's amazing how up to date it is with traffic and such.
