For real, but that seems to apply to newer vehicles in general. I’ve been seeing a Ford tech guy talking about how to manually shift some of the electronically shifted Ford trans into neutral. For the ones I’ve seen, you have to get under the vehicle and be competent enough to move a lever, so that knocks out 95% of society.

Someone remind me WHY this bullshit makes "modern" vehicles better?

That's true of ICE vehicles as well - and there's absolutely NO good reason for it.

It does nothing whatsoever for such things. Although I'll reluctantly agree that a PCM makes engines run better (when it works), the rest of the bullshit contributes absolutely NOTHING.

Last weekend I took my parents out for lunch & my dad insisted we take his car, newish Cadillac. I've driven it before but was reminded what an unmerciful pain in the balls it is with its touch screen, trying to figure out how to do anything is frustrating including the volume on the radio, working the shifter reminded me of that Hummer piece of shit, foot on brake, push a button, then click the thing either forward or backward. The 'heated steering wheel' kept turning itself on despite me turning it back off multiple times. I can't stand that fucking car, after getting back to their house & back into the old Subaru felt like getting into a lawn tractor, a much preferable lawn tractor. just simple & everything works as it should.

I recently bought a new Chrysler minivan for work. It's about as top-of-the-line as you can get. It's freaking impossible....Back up to a curb and the thing acts like it's been rear-ended. Still haven't figured out how to turn the horn off when it's locked or the remote start is used. It's a breath of fresh air getting into the TJ after that.

this was literally me last week with my 87 year old dad & 82 year old mom in the Cadillac, the two of them screaming at each other the ENTIRE time over how to turn the radio on/off/up/down, move the seat, control the temperature, shut the gigantic touch screen off because it irritates my dad and, worst of all, which chips 'those bastards still haven't installed in the car since they bought it that it didn't come with because of the phony supply chain issues'

Shit. I had to move a guest's car in my driveway. Has that answer to a question nobody was asking: Pushbutton start. Pressed the button, and pressed the button and nothing happened. Then I remembered: "This is America, land of wussies and useless interlocks. Step on the brake!". That worked. Sigh.....

I'll admit that keyless, pushbutton start is a nice feature as you don't have to fumble with keys, especially when it's cold. But yeah, I've had no issues with using a physical key for the last 40 years.

then it probably had a dial or some stupid shift lever on the column? My wife's benz shifter is the right stalk on the column, the same one that all my other cars use for the windshield wipers. I put her car in park while driving 40 miles an hour thinking I was cleaning the windshield...

Oh I hate the "dial" shifter. Of course, I also think that the automatic transmission is a harbinger of the downfall of humanity.

I don't mind the dial/knob. At least the ones I've used were in the order I'm used to. What annoys me is the weird console lever that acts like a sequential just forward it backwards, but theyre not in P-R-N-D. I rented a BMW like that and my parents had a Mercedes that way and I hated it.

We had a 2020 hybrid Accord EXL. Very well equipped, plenty of power, 48-49 mpg, we paid 35k new OTD.

It was my wife's vehicle that she used to drive to work, about 4,000 miles a year.

At 48 mpg/4,000 miles, we only pumped about 85 gals of fuel into it a year.

No way we can come out ahead with an EV. Not financially and certainly not worth the aggravation of being tethered to a cord.

My DD is a 2021 Santa Cruz. AWD, 281hp, 25-ish mpg in town. It is perfect for what I need. It hauls us, the pups and has a small bed to haul Lowes stuff when needed. We made a trip from Atlanta to Denver and back. Comfortable, plenty of power and no waiting at a charging station.

No thanks Joe, I will take my chances on global warming, just like I took my chances on the hole in the ozone.

They're also great because the wife can keep her 5 pounds of linked keychain bobbles (with maybe 4 actual keys) in her purse instead of hanging it off the ignition switch and making it go bad prematurely.
