yea, there's a time & place for everything. To continue the Ramsey rant, according to him no one should buy a new car until they've reached a million dollars in net worth. He has some formula to determine what amount you
should spend on vehicles.
I've always disagreed with that, too extreme even for me, I've always seen value in buying very inexpensive new cars then driving them for a decade before flipping them into a new one. Pound for pound the least expensive way to assure reliable transportation with nearly zero maintenance costs, for daily drivers anyway. The numbers are interesting at $112/mo as my purchase price pro-rated over time (assuming $21,000 cash purchase price minus $7500 residual value from prior car = $13,500 per decade divided by 120 months = $112.50/mo). I'm currently in year 10 of my current ride, and between the Accord that preceded it and the Subie I spent a grand total of $900 on repairs over 20 years. You'll never do that in a Ramsey mobile.
Toys are a different category, really it's mostly flushing money down the toilet. I didn't get my TJ until I hit 50, a toy like this didn't add up for me at any point prior to that. I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of it so it's been worthwhile from that standpoint, otherwise it's been a completely frivolous waste of dough
