The sad thing is , people beg for this crap and others beg to exploit them .

Completely agree. However, I figure I have about 21 more years in this vale of tears this time around, I think I can keep my old junk running that long (we'll see).

I know everyone here (many anyhow) would like to blame the EV but this story reminds me of all those stories of cars accelerating on their own 20 or so years back.
So is this comparison for similar age and price point vehicles, or is it including gas vehicles that are decades old? I suspect cheap older poorly maintained vehicles are more likely to experience catastrophic failures than expensive new vehicles.
