So I've recently purchased my first jeep(05 tj). Everything has been going great til about 2 weeks ago I started to get a really bad squeak when accelerating which is especially bad in the mornings along with a clunking sound whenever I accelerate from a stop. I got underneath and it appears to be the exhaust system. The bolts at the pre cats were loose and I tightened them but they seem to have loosened again. Also the exhaust by the 3rd cat all the way to the rear pipe hanger seems to have a lot of play in it. Is there any simple way to get this tightened up or any major know issues that i should be looking at?

Most folks have trouble getting the bolts to loosen, so yours is a bit backwards! There are at least three hangers hanging your exhaust up. One on the tranny, one aft of that just before the axle, and one after that close to the end of the tailpipe. Of course there’s the attachment to the engine. Are all these present?

All the hangers are present from what I can see. The hanger by the trans has a lot wiggle and squeak to it.

Are you referring to the rubber hangers that go on to the metal supports?

The “nuts” for the main cats (by the header) are single use stover style - so if they keep loosening you may want to get the mopar replacements. It’ll run around $20 online (Mopar #6506546AA).

Yes, after my tummy tuck, I had to replace mine. They were causing the exhaust to rattle.
