Not really enough work to do a build thread but I got a 2002 TJ about 2 months ago.
Got a pretty decent deal on it.
Had a little bit of rust on the frame by the skid plate but other than that the frame was solid especially by the rear control arm mounts.
I had a week off of work so I figured it was a good time to get some stuff squared away on the Jeep.
I first cut out and replaced all 6 skid plate mounting bungs. (thats where the frame had rot)
I cut out all the bad section of frame and welded in some 1/4” thick steel and made up some top hat style threaded bungs for the skid plate bolts.
While I was under there I stripped the frame and went over it checking for more rot (luckily there was none, I knew about the spots it had when I purchased it).
Cleaned out the inside of the frame while I had the bottom cut out and than coated the outside with POR-15.
I am planning on doing the eastwood inside frame coating hopefully next week.
I got a really good deal on a take out Dana 44 from the same year TJ so I dropped the rear axle out and cleaned down the undesife of the tub and gas tank skid plate etc. Gave that area all a fresh coat of paint and cleaned and flushed the new Dana 44 re did the entire rear brake setup (all new shoes, drums, and components.
While I had the suspension out it was a good time to add a little lift to it.
I went with a Zone 4” kit.
Installed that front and rear
added a Rubicon Express Front Track Bar
Scored a deal on some later model stock wheels with 33” tires locally so I installed those
adjusted the toe in on the front tires
adjusted the steering wheel
drained the trans fluid and flushed it
refilled with Redline MTL.
I have a few other little odds and ends to do
At the moment my rear has 3.73 gears
and my front has 3.07
so I removed the front driveshaft so I can still use it until I get a few more days off than I will be swapping in a set of 4.56 gears front and back.
So far all feels well.
Ill be putting some more miles on it this week and weekend.
