First run to Capitol Peak

So I took the jeep for its first true off road run yesterday in to Capitol forest. Had a sandwich and a bottle of water right below the gate to the radio towers at the peak. Thought you might like this picture. Lowered the tire pressure for a smother ride and did a few of the short roads to some landings but only one was a challenge where they had dug ditches for culvert pipes but the ditches were still open and no pipes and we went right through. I went went with a fellow that had been there before, Had a good time.
This is right below the locked gate to the towers around 2600 feet elevation.

The power lines are the way out to the main highway and back to Olympia the gravel road is to the right of this picture and goes to the end of the clear cut then under the power lines to the highway that you can see on the left.

Sounds like you had fun! How did it do off road?

The jeep did fine and the lower tire pressure took care of most of the washboard roads. Really not a challenging run other than not getting lost. The lift kit was a big advantage with the ditches I did find. Next I need to replumb my portable air pump to work with the deflator I have so it is plug and play. Climbing and loose gravel were not any obstacle. Thanks

Next thing you might want to get as well would be some nice AT or MT tires. My Duratracs suit me well.

...and who said JK's can't go off the pavement!? SIL was running street type tires on his JKU, and cut a tire on roads like that. Off road tires are not just about tread pattern. He just put a set of 265/75R16 Duratracs on his with the stock steel wheels.

Right out of Olympia WA it is all DNR land and you can down a free PDF map that will help, just look up WA state DNR and go to their maps of recreational land and download the Capitol Forest map, miles of gravel roads. As to the tires they are brand new and came with the rig it will be a while until I change them out. I have had the more aggressive tires on a Toyota SR 5 and if I still hunted Elk I would have gone that way, they are the Bridgestone AT series and I like the 19.7 open highway milage

Thanks for the info @MikeM , Daughter and SIL are up in that area and we are always looking for opportunities get the rigs out when I'm up there. And don't take me too seriously about your tires, if they're round and black, and hold air, it's all good.
