Flashers are on without hazard switch turned on

1998 TJ Wrangler with 98K actual miles. Went to drive the jeep and battery was dead. Jump started with power pack and drove around to recharge. Parked in driveway and waited to put it away. Had to jump it again to put away. That is when I found the flashers were blinking without the hazard switch turned on. I have replaced with new battery and flashers are still working. I have cycled the hazard switch repeatedly. Battery connections are clean and tight. I checked fuse 9 and flasher in the Power Disctibution Center and the flasher fuse behind glove box. Both had continunity. Flasher relay at the base of steering column was replaced. Did not resolve the issue. I am looking for what to check/replace next.

I have not tried unpluging the Multi Function switch yet. The Jeep is at the farm and I only have weekends to look at it, I ordered a replacement multi function switch to take with me tomorrow (Friday) when I get out there to work on it. I will remove the the switch before I open the box for the new one. Thank you for the idea.

The Jeep is at the farm and I only have weekends to look at it, I ordered a replacement multi function switch to take with me tomorrow (Friday) when I get out there to work on it. I will remove the the switch before I open the box for the new one. Thank you for the idea.

Be sure to check the connector on the mfs, it could be melted as well.

Just wait until you see what forums look like in 2046 for vehicles that are being built today. Those will likely be mostly filled with posts that begin "remember when..." as opposed to people actually even attempting to keep them on the road.

By then parts won't be available and the "rules" will require all replacement parts to meet whatever unreasonable emissions/rolling resistant/fuel economy/etc rules in force at the time. We'll be required to annually PROVE we comply by paying a certified and Guv approved transporter to take said vehicle to the inspection station, pay an exorbitant fee, and wait an unreasonable time while an unqualified inspector drinks his/her/their coffee and reads PlayTrans,

Those of us who love old vehicles will each have personal museums and have to get permits each time we drive them on our own property.

I removed the multi function switch and the flasher lights continued to flash. I replaced the multi function switch and it did not resolve the problem.

It could be a lot of things, but I always suggest checking grounds when the circuit seems to be defying the laws of physics...

Issue resolved. There is a remote starter on this Jeep. I pulled the fuses and the flashing lights stopped. Jeep started. All lights, wipers, and horn work as they should. I must have done something to the remote module after a jump start.

I did a visual inspection when I pulled it out from the MFS. Turns out it was an issue with the aftermarket remote starter
