Hi everyone. This is my first post here.

I just got my first Jeep. It is a 97 TJ. I inherited it from my late grandfather. I am new to Jeeps, so I want to learn.

I looked at the frame very carefully. It is in good shape. It is strong and has no bad spots. I want to keep it that way. I plan to drive it on the road every other week. I also want to take it on some moderate trails.

I want to fix the frame so it does not rot. I have a big question. How do I get the dirt and rocks out of the frame? There is "junk" inside the rails. I want it clean before I coat the inside.

I am going to drill drain holes next weekend. Should I use a pressure washer to wash the dirt out? Or is there a better way?

Also, I have not bought paint or rust protection yet. What is the best kind to use?

If you help me, I will take pictures of my work. I will post them here to help other people later. Thank you for the help!

Dont use rubberized undercoating, it traps moisture and rots underneath. If anything, use a oil based paint like rustoleum.

Take it in to have it oil sprayed yearly. Krown is decent but pretty runny, but I hear good things about woolwax and fluid film.

Run water through the frame rails after wheeling if youve gone through mud or dirty water.

If at all possible, garage it if you deal with winter and road salt
