Front end clunk

So I am on the road towing my 2003 TJ all is well then I started getting a clunk sounds like it’s in front left wheel. Only happens at speeds below 10 mph, u joints feel tight nothing getting warm, doesn’t do it in reverse. Then bam just went away? Could it be front hub after switching transfer case to neutral and back while towing? Thx in advance

I had a bit of front end clunking that ended up being worn steering system joints. Even full with fresh grease, they were pretty messy. Replaced them as needed and no more front end clunk. Might not be your issue, but it'll be good to just grab the drag link and tie rod and see if they wiggle in any direction.

Everything feels tight it is also rhythmic clunking about once each tire rotation and does it traveling straight or in a turn

I’d be all over that....check the cardan joint in the front shaft or just pull it and see what happens.

So pulled the front shaft no change. Started tearing everything apart so I figured I'd re gear from my stock 3.07 to a 4.56 (33" tires) After many hundred in new tools gearing runs great but didn't fix the clunk. axle seems fine just ordered new hub will update.

New gears and new hub clunk is gone. Never did find an obvious problem but just changed differential oils at 500 miles and everything is still good, all's well that ends well i guess.
