I was swindled on this Tj. I had to replace motor. Motor runs great. Had mechanic replace clutch, pressure plate, t.o. bearing. Transmission making noise when clutch not pressed down, mechanic noted it was input shaft bearing. So I decided to also change all fluids in jeep to redline products. Now after driving a little bit I've got a nasty rattiling noise coming from trans / transfer case. In addition the rear pinion has leak at drive shaft and feels hot after driving. Front diff has leak at driveshaft. I thought maybe my trans mission mount was bad so I replaced with a duralast, now I got slight vibration taking off in 1st and all the other problems are still there. Wish I had somebody that could help me work on this dang thing.

That NV3550 5 speed always sounds like a box of rocks in a tumbler. Mine makes the same rattling noise when the clutch pedal isn't engaged. It's been that way since ownership, which now is at 175K miles and 14 years. I run Redline MTL in it, which seems to help the shifting during the cold months.
As far as the pinion seals leaks are concerned, it happens. Your rig is 20 years old. Leaks are going to happen.

Your transmission is no stranger to be compared to a can of rattling bolts on here. But, you need to figure out if it is trany or transfer.

Pinion leaks come with age as well as driveshaft vibrations.
Check ds ujoints for play, a bad ds ujoint will come back to hunt you with possibly even worst consequences.
Change dif fluid to a thicker 140 if you have not done so. That may solve leaking issues.

Trany/transfer mount come in two flavors: rubber or poly. Poly has endless reports of vibrations.

This are simple 'do it yourself' things.
Don't mean to offend you, unless $ is not an issue or you have some age/medical condition that prevents you from going under the Jeep - do it yourself.

additionally google or use search option on here, this place is full of helpful resources, it just takes time to filter through everything
