Fuel filler restrictor?

Dunno exactly what’s in the pic, but the vehicle has an anti-siphon and rollover anti-drain valve so I suspect that’s it.
Do you need it? Only if your Jeep goes wheels up with you trapped in it and are unconscious and there’s a fire that may burn you alive. Other than that situation, no not needed.

Not sure why it would be needed for a rollover, the gas cap is a sealed type and won't let gas out. Thinking about it more I'm guessing it has something to do with the vent, forcing you to push the nozzle in past the vent. It also happens to work pretty well as an anti theft device, it is not possible to get a siphon hose in far enough. I'll just carry a capless fuel filler funnel, had one in my funnel collection and it worked great and doesn't take up a lot of room.

I did the same, and added a vent to my can but those spouts still won't get past the restrictor and gas spills out all over. Once I inserted the caplets fill funnel it worked great. The new "spill proof" cans are such a joke, I never spilled fuel till they came up with that design!
My $15 Walmart plastic gas can never had any issues putting gas in the tank.
Do they still sell "real" gas cans?
It is not hard to remove, but it does require a needle nose tip on your acetylene torch to get in there to do so…
If your only issue is fueling, just get the correct gas can nozzle. Any rigid nozzle with the proper size diameter for gasoline vehicles will work.
