Gears grinding going into reverse

Just c

Just curious.....but Jerry Bransford has always post Redline MTL.....not Redline 90. The MTL is what I put in mine and it made a difference. Not a placebo....You either grind or you do not grind. I put mine in and a week later I go and did a good test run thinking about it and no grind etc.

Reverse doesn't have synchros .... it has a "blocking ring" which isn't exactly synchros from what I understand. My 3rd NSG the reverse I have to let off slowly on the clutch and I feel it "Lock" into reverse then it's good to go.
Wasn't paying attention to auto spell.

I do find some humor in the posts that state something like...

"Mine has no issues...after a rebuild."

"Or my first two were bad but my third works great."

I'm a manual guy and if I had to buy another JK or JT/Glad or even JL(owned 3 ) I would still get the manual and bitch about the shifting adventure in my future.

I'm not trying to be combative....but I find it a little humorous when someone says "Redline MT90 doesn't do crap for these"........When Jerry has specifically stated...going back a couple years...that the only Redline to use is "Redline MTL" that is GL4 and is the only Redline that helps.

If you're not using what he specifically stated helped, and helped mine, I'm not following how you state this fact it doesn't help. Not looking at the other data, you're specifically saying this doesn't help I'm trying to understand how you know this.

I own 3 NSG370's right now. One in my black 2005 would grind 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4 often. Not reverse, but who cares the dam thing would grind. MTL helped immensely and 1-2 still would grind so I got it rebuilt.

The other 2 a Silver 2005 and a 2008 JK both have the NSG and have MTL and shift like butter. I have zero issues with them 1-6. The 08 had some, and none now with MTL.....100% anecdotal....agree...but I switched based on someone providing a lot of experience.

If your Tranny is toast....nothing helps. And if someone says "Leave old stuff it new stuff ruins trans" I just don't listen, that's nonsensical (not saying you said that).

I'm not sure what you're talking about. I already stated the MT90 was an auto correct error by my phone that I missed.

In any given day im texting automotive shit with customers 20 times in a typical day. (Or more)
So my auto correct is full of all sorts of things.

The point(s) was we've changed out fluid for Redline on request and it didn't ultimately make a difference.
Perhaps it made an incremental difference but the tranny still had issues.
The only time I can say a difference happened was on an overdue change which I can't award a victory for that. Any syncromesh fresh fluid might have helped.

I've owned three Jeeps with the Getrag and every one had issues.
1st one 3-4 was notchy..
2nd one 2-3 and 4-3 was notch
3rd one 4-5 and 6-5 was notchy and reverse needed a prayer said to engage.

The three best manual transmissions Jeep ever used were the
T18 (way out in front)
Nv3550
Ax-15

The rest? Who cares. Junk in some way shape or form.

Stop, push in clutch and put into 4th, put into R. If it doesn't click then double clutch then put into R. When I'm in 2wd I can shift with barely pushing the clutch. In 4low I need to make sure to push all the way in and take my time.

Ha! And I was about to order new motor mounts because seeing the console lift up when trying to get into reverse made me think there was a clearance issue with the shift lever. I can "feel" when I'm partially in reverse or all the way in reverse, but either way, I have to keep my hand on the shifter when backing up so it doesn't jump completely out of gear. This thread has saved me money on motor mounts...I just have a sucky 6-speed transmission.
