Goodyear MT/R 35x12.5R15 tires on national backorder

goodyear is no where near what they used to be. they have shut down several U.S. plants over the last 15yrs. moving production overseas with new plants in China. Mexico, Brazil and Chile.
cheap labor is nothin when you depend on a 3rd world supply chains to get materials in and products out.

to the best of my knowledge there is only 1 big tire plant here in the U.S. anymore.
Goodyear just bought Cooper too so there’s that. There are still several large scale plants in the US. They mostly make larger, tires light truck and commercial. Michelin, Toyo/Nitto, Cooper, Goodyear, Bridgestone, etc. I do have to agree Goodyear sucks as a company and a product.

I'll disagree that Goodyear's products "suck". I've had better luck with my Goodyear MT/Rs on my Wrangler than any of the other tires I've had over the past 25 years of TJ ownership. Generally speaking my tires have to withstand crawling on trails with big sharp rocks that few other tires can withstand. In 19 years of MT/R ownership I've only had two punctures despite the sharp rocks on my SoCal desert trails. Once in 2003 on Sledgehammer in Johnson Valley and and then in 2020 on an Arizona trail card called Hardass which more than lives up to its name. Both of which will tear up any tire not exceptionally tough with cut and puncture resistance. My former BFG MTs were always getting cut and punctured which is why I changed to the GY MT/R.

I’m waiting on four 40” MT/R’s so it’s not just the 35’s. The place I ordered from said their distributor wasn’t much help either.

Is your Tahoe mostly on or off road? I wouldn't recommend the MT/R for mainly street use.

Ha.. no it’s a street vehicle with 4x4 ability but won’t see much unless I get stuck in wet grass hooking up to the boat or something.. the Adventure ATs..or the trail runnerATs.. but thanks for your concern😉

recently read about a upcoming tire shortage about a month ago 🤷‍♂️ (might just be a undercover marketing thing though to boost prices and demand though).
No one is exporting rubber to China is the problem because they just introduced a 2 child policy from 1 child policy so all the rubber they have is now going into making GoodYears for "Sippy Cup joe" lol

The tire shortage is fierce. I tried to get a pair of 275/50/17's for my Crown Vic for months, only one company makes that size (Nitto) and even they themselves had no timetable for the re-start of production. Sold the car, bought another TJ.

And I have to second what has been said of Goodyear's social justice policies. Their products are best in class but I'll never buy new Goodyears again. Jerry's experiences notwithstanding, BFG is now the gold standard for AT/MT tires in my book.

It's not just tires. I work for GM and there are so many parts that are on backorder right now. We have customers that have been in loaner cars for 6-8 weeks because we cannot get parts to fix their vehicles.
This is what happens when you depend on overseas manufacturers.
I’ve heard from a Ford specialist that the Kentucky truck plant has 700 2020 trucks stored that are waiting for electronics/computer chips. Ford is going to apply to have these re-labeled as 2021’s if they can get them this year.

That doesn’t make any sense. Ford was delivering 2021’s last year. Mine came in February.

They are building 2022’s soon, those order banks opened in March.

Plus the number is 20,000 Superduty’s waiting on chips.

the guy does design for Ford, he was at one of the locations were the 2020’s were stuck. It was a stadium parking lot. He was trying to rework some older chips into the oldest of the stored vehicles. I guess he had 30 or so chips that could be re flashed to help them out.

There is such a shortage of vehicles right now that customers are taking whatever is on the lot.
Our used vehicle sales has quadrupled.

I’m just saying the years are off. In Kentucky they have 20,000+ 2021 Superduty’s not 2020’s sitting and waiting on chips. The F150’s switched to 2021 before the Superduty.
