Hardtop Identification

I'm trying to decide if I'm going to tackle wiring my 01 Sahara for a hardtop. Can you all help my tell what year I have? Also looking for a kit to not have to make my own up. I can't find any that aren't discontinued!

The vents mean you have a 97-02 hardtop.

I think there are two harnesses you need that plug into the main harness. Then the switches and a pump reservoir.

You won't find the kit anywhere. This is the thread you need. Basically, you'll need two donor harnesses from a TJ that came with a factory hardtop. Then you'll swap those harnesses for the ones in your TJ.

Used this for my 2003.

My Jeep had the wiring and switches. Just needed the pigtail to connect Jeep harness to top.

I will try Brisky. I don't mind wiring but the bottle, switches and relays might be a pain to source.

He'll have the switches and the bottle w/pumps. The relay and 40A fuse are available at any auto parts store.

Question on this... Just bought a hard top for my TJ unlimited and love it. Problem - mine was a soft top from the factory so, I need to add in a wire kits and of course I'm a few years too late to the party. Is there any way to wire this without changing both the Dash and tub wiring harness? The ones I have see so far all have been cut..... and not directly plug back in. If not, any suggestions on were to look for a "clean harness". I live in an area with zero TJ unlimited jeeps in the junk yards to pull them myself.

Since your TJ is 2004 or later (I think I'm right on that), the process for wiring your hardtop is different than the one in the link I posted above. What you will need to do is get a donor dash and body harness from a 2003-2006 hardtop TJ (preferably an Unlimited to account for the further distance to the rear) as well as the switches, dual pump washer bottle, 40A fuse and relay. If you can't find donor harnesses from an Unlimited, it seems all you would have to do is splice in some extension wire for the part of the harness that runs back to the hardtop plug (plus extend the washer hose). Then follow the process in the link below. Basically, you are stripping out the required wires and pins from the donor harness to make a harness that is similar to the kits that are now discontinued. Use the link I also provided above as a good source for the parts. I just did this a few months ago, but the process developed by @Scoutmaster works great.

Thanks for the insight! I reviewed the 2 part series a few weeks ago and have been looking for harnesses ever since. Then I came across a PDF from one of the original Mopar kits and was thinking there had to be someone out there who had just made their own from the diagram. It sounds like your suggestion is exactly what I was looking for... I'll review the link you provided. Thanks for the help!
