I'm installing new glass for my hard top. I also have new support arms and studs and hinges. I've got everything successfully installed, but when I close the glass, the support arms cause the studs to shift inwards. I'm really nervous about tightening them down further because I don't want to shatter the glass. I can post pictures If needed.

I used to do glass shower doors. Very similar to the hinges and clamps involved with that, there is almost no way to overtighten those as long as the "rubber" washers are in place. I could almost guarantee that the bolts will brake before the glass.

Sorry to revive and old thread but I’m trying to replace my ball studs on my TJ now. When I removed the old torx screws on one of the lower ball studs on one side it seems like whatever they were bolted into fell off (?) and now the torx screws cont catch anything inside the hard top to actually tighten down. Is the threaded piece inside the hard top mounted in there or are they loose pieces that I need to somehow fish out and try to realign somehow? I’m too scared to take the other side off to compare and can’t find any vids or instructions online for it.
Hey there. Also reviving this and hoping you ended up solving this. I just ordered these ball studs to rebuild a hard top that was missing all of the strut mounting hardware. Did you find out why the bolts were not catching and solution? Also can you tell me what size / thread bolts are OEM for mounting the ball stud brackets, I don’t even have the original bolts.
