Heater control swaps?

Does anyone know if the heater controls for a newer TJ (3 rotary knobs) can be retrofitted into a ’97 TJ with slider type heater controls?

I’d like to install a double DIN stereo on my Jeep and it seems the options for doing this involve changing the center section dash to the new design.

Below I will give you detail on how to change your 97-98 sliding knobs to turn style for your heating and cooling. I will tell you what I did; other years might work, but I will only tell you what WILL work. I have a 97 Sport, 4.0L manual 5spd.

I decided to do this because I disliked the sliding style, and I had all sorts of trouble with my blend doors not working properly. I also wanted to replace my heater core and evaporator. I have a 98 with the older style Heater slide controls and I was able to add a double din radio with no issues? I used the kit from Crutchfield with the new Dbl din opening. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_120956549/Metra-95-6549-Dash-Kit-Black.html?tp=3121

Also had a 98 with a double din using the kit from Crutchfield.
