Help me decide what to do !

Stone, I wanted to reinforce that you will be fine w 3:73 gearing for the on road driving. If you have a 5 speed manual, that is. I personally have no problems keeping up, climbing graded hills and getting around to and from work, highway or back roads w my 33's and a 5 speed. I have to admit that was one of the main reasons I put off my lift for so long. I wanted to make sure I had the funds together in the case I needed to regear. As of yet, I can't speak for off-roading my current setup. But getting out and about is not a problem at all! Nix the naysayers, with all due respect.

I agree with all of what has been said. It is easy to get wrapped up in thinking everything is gonna grenade unless you do XYZ...

I know unlifted the current tires will rub and maybe take out my flares if I go offroad much. If I replace them it brings everything back in line. That's about $800 ish for 5. Looking through a bunch of posts here on the site....The OME 2.5" HD lift plus a 1" body lift is about $1000... theoretically for a couple hundred bucks I can run the tires I have and do some improvements to the TJ. Shouldn't have to compensate for angles and driveline - maybe. Although a transfer case drop at the skid might be needed. The 3.73 gears won't be awesome, but will work for now. I also think the OME lift is designed around having a winch up front. I have one sitting in the garage I can mount. Minimal cost to add that..

So, sound like a good plan? Or am I missing something?

Sounds like a solid plan. Not sure what the OME comes with so plan on an adjustable trackbar for front and relocation bracket for rear, if not included that is. You may get vibs that can be offset with a t/c drop or MML. If doing the BL a MML would be beneficial and you likely won't have to lower the t/c, losing some clearance that you just gained.
The 3.73's will be less than ideal but not horrible with the 4.0. If you had the 2.4 I would say hold off until you can re-gear.

Yes sir, it's the 5 speed.

In reading about the lift it looks like it comes with a rear relocation bracket for the track bar. The consensus is the front can be left stock, it seems to work. There also seem to be issues with an adjustable up front with such a "low" lift. Clearance issues with the diff and what not.

The one issue I see with the kit, is most people recommend longer bump stops than come with it. Saying they are too short for the lift / tire combo. I'll look into those as well.

Thanks for the input.

Chris should be able to chime in on the bump stop issue, it hasn't been that long since he ran the OME HD lift on his TJ...

A small BL (1-1.25") is hardly noticeable but will give some extra clearance for a TT and tire clearance. Going from a 2.5" to a 4" SL brings on a new set things to deal with; trackbars, control arms, sye, drive shaft, etc.

that's right but .don't know how many ive lifted with small lift than next year do it all over again new tire that are bigger, doing more trail riding with new mods... I say try to figure out if you might get into more trail riding(every body does with more capable mods) than go for the a real functional lift might cost a few more dollars upfront but over time you will save a lot of loot by not doing a couple lifts over a few years..been there done that the pile in the shop gets bigger and the pocket gets smaller

read for days about bump steer on a tj before you decide they are the the worst if you don't get it right.. before you choose your lift ask lots and lots of questions or you will learn some real lessons and then you will be asking a lot of diffront questions..home work home work home work first

awesome advice here... i just got my 1st Jeep a few weeks ago, and I am picking up some Fluid Film to do the underneath. I am just going to kinda cover the whole underside; snow is coming soon, and that also means SALT.

A 'must do' for all salted, snowy states. Don't forget to spray inside any access holes; frame or tub.
