Hey guys, correct me if I’m wrong. Am I ok with disconnecting my front DS at the diff yoke, tying it up, and driving around?

I need to isolate the rear DS from the front to check for vibration.

I seem to remember that it’s ok to do, but I wanna make sure.

Thanks! 😸

Yes.... you can do that, BUT.... ENSURE that the driveshaft is held up really well to ensure the drive shaft doesn't drop and pole vault the Jeep while driving.
Oh yeah, I’ve actually seen that happen before!

Thanks for confirming that for me Sir!

hol up — doesn't the front shaft spin even when not in 4WD? That's why Blaine is always advocating for front hub manual disconnects if you get vibration at highway speeds, because it's always spinning. When the front tires spin, they spin the driveshaft. In 2WD the front is effectively in neutral so the driveshaft gets spun by the wheels.

for the time it takes to remove the 4 remaining bolts holding the front shaft onto the diff yoke, just remove it completely and you don't have to be concerned about the below disclaimer.

Disclaimer: I have no idea what I'm talking about.

you're disconnecting at the diff, you should be fine. Although it still feels like minimal incremental effort to make sure nothing happens. And in the words of a brilliant (and smoking hot) woman I used to work with: what happens when something happens?

Do not engage it in 4 wheel drive , then it will be driven by the rear and things will get exciting fast.
