Hi guys, I have 2001 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. This car has caused me no end of trouble this year. Most recently, the transmission completely died. I opted for the rebuild vs. the new part to save about $1000. However both before and after picking up the Jeep, it just does not seem to shift to where it should be at 60-70 mph. We took a good hour long drive this weekend, and at 65 mph, we were running at nearly 3000 rpms. I don't have oversized tires on the Jeep or anything that would cause extra drag. The tranny guy who worked on it suggested it may be due to the fact that it doesn't have a 4th gear, but while the Jeep never "liked" highway speeds, the rpms didn't seem to be this much of an issue before. Any thoughts? Just for info, the thermostat/heating/cooling system, fan etc. have all been replaced this year. Thanks!

RPMs sound perfect for a properly geared 32rh auto with no overdrive. If the rpms are too high for you, slap in some axles with 3.07 gears and then you'll cry about the lack of power.
p.s. That trans shouldn't shift at all at 65-70 mph. NO OVERDRIVE.

X2, 2001 TJs with an automatic came with the 32RH automatic transmission which only has 3 speeds, no Overdrive. Those rpms are entirely appropriate and are NOT a problem at all for the engine. By the way your 32RH has a superb reputation. I'd trade your 3-speed automatic for my 4-speed automatic that came in 2003 and newer TJs in a heartbeat.
Do you know what gears you have,I have the 3 speed auto with 4.56 gears and I like to run at 3000 and that sounds just like mine.but it depends on your setup
