hood vents with brute force intake

Tough decision for me I guess, I have been told that grills will cool the engine 20° I think that as long as there is no downside to installing the vents I may proceed with the operation

The hood louver did NOT lower my engine temps it did however lower the time to cool off and temp of my engine bay. Personally I would cut the holes for the louver if you install it you already have to drill about 20 holes for the screws and you might as well get what benefit you can. I think they look cool and I like mine .

Looks great, I will take a look and make sure I like the way mine are going to look before I cut anything. But yes , if they look nice and can keep the engine compartment cooler than I will proceed.

I put this mod (Poison Spider) on Stinger. Did I expect it to cool my engine. No. The thermostat and radiator do that. I put it on for other reasons and cut the holes. It did lower my engine intake temperature from 178 to 146 on a typical freeway run. It did lower the temps about the same percentage wheeling. I also wanted to disapate the engine bay temps faster and it did do that. I can actually touch my hood after a prolonged run. Also was hoping that some of the engine bay heat would escape from there and result in lower under tub temps. Jury is still out on that one. If it does it is slightly.
Lastly but most importantly, it just looks bitchin!

I wanted something unique. I thought I had achieved that but this last trip to Moab brought disappointment. Seemed like ever 4th jeep had one. Kinda like when jeep came out with the kahki color. Made me paint Stinger Sunset Orange. Now ever other jeep has some form of this orange. Keeping ahead of Jones is killing me

I appreciate the response stinger. I guess on the bright side whether somebody has one that kinda looks like yours. You still have a sweet jeep parked in your garage. I know what your saying though. I am just trying to do the most I can to maximize the life and components of my jeep. If that means keeping my engine compartment cooler and making other components especially electronics cooler sounds good to me

That all sounds fine in theory but in practice it's not going to make any difference. I've been working on engines and the wiring/electronics under the hoods of my cars & Jeeps since the early 60's and the underhood temps just don't have much of an effect on things. If it did, I'd have installed a lot of hood louvers by now since I tend to keep my vehicles far longer than most people do.

Underhood temps feel hot to us humans but they're shrugged off by pretty much everything else under the hood since manufacturers learned many years ago what holds up to those temps and what doesn't.

Not to be a dick, but you're not going to get any benefit from cooler electronics.

If the electronics on a TJ needed to be 'cooled', they would have come that way from the factory (with fans and heat sinks).

The idea of cooling the electronics on a TJ is just silly. But hey, it's you rig and your money, so if it helps you sleep better at night, then by all means... Cool the hell out of those electronics.

I believe ya Chris.. it doesn't really matter to me as the previous owner must not had the hood latched because there are some serious dents all in a line across the hood. So by using the grills for cosmetics if that's all they benifit I am ok with that too

For me it's not about electronics, or keeping the engine cool. It was about lowering engine compartment temp for 3 primary reasons: to lower my underhood temps because my air intake is underhood without any deflection of heat away from the intake. (Remember, I don't have a jeep engine) 2nd, my ps cooler is underhood and there is very little airflow over it. (This is about to change very soon). Lastly like I said I wanted to deflect some heat up and out to help lower my tub temps.
