How much fluid should my transfer case take?

Finally did fluids change. Both differentials, transmission, and transfer case. I remember reading a thread about capacities. My question is about transfer case. Jeep is 2003 Sport with Dana 44 and 5 speed. I remember reading that TC takes 2.1qt of ATF. Mine took less than 2. What gives?

2.1 Qts is for the 241 case. It's been a while since I had a 231 case, but I seem to remember it taking about 1.5 qts or so.

Just fill until it comes out the fill plug. You probably just didn't drain it all out. If you want to squeeze a bit extra in then do that an slap on the plug quick. Don't make a mountain out of a mole hill, is that the right phrase? And ya, like @Irun says the 231 takes allot less.

Depends upon whether you are on flat ground or sloped.
As long as you fill to when the fluid comes out of the filler hole; you should be good as Pagrey posted above.
