How tall is too tall?

Here is some perspective on the basic usefulness of a small body lift.

Mine is sitting on worn down 33s, 4" spring and a 1.25" body lift. Total lift is 5.25".

The frame rail is 20" off the ground in the garage right now.

The belly and gas tank skids are both about 18" off the ground.

Stock skids on the same Jeep off the ground would be ~15.5" belly and ~16.5" gas tank.

Getting that extra clearance without additional spring lift means there is more driveshaft travel available for useful suspension travel. Body lifts help with the balancing act of many small changes to add up into something greater than one or a few big changes.
