On your 2001+ TJ, do your fog lights flicker on without touching the switch? Or maybe you park, get out of the jeep, walk away and notice your fog lights are on? WHAT THE FUCK?
Well, there is a cure that will cost next to nothing but your time and patience to fix.
I borrowed this write up from a gent on another Jeep forum, so I can't take credit for this.
Thanks jjvw for this write up.
Do the fog lights flicker or stay on on your 2001-2006 TJ Wrangler? Fix it for nearly free.
There is a push rod connected to the on/off knob at the end of the stalk that actuates a rocker arm in the steering column which opens and closes a spring loaded contactor. Over time the push rod will wear a divot into the rocker arm, not allowing the rocker arm to hold the contactor in the open position when the knob is in the off position. The fix is to rebuild that divot.
Open the steering column and remove the multifunction switch. Not my video, but it does hint at why you might want to keep the expensive factory MFS rather than replace it with a cheap Chinese copy.

This is the back of the MFS.
Open it up and take out the insides.
This is the rocker arm.
This is the spring loaded contactor that is no longer being held open by the worn rocker arm when the knob is in the off position.
Here is the divot on the rocker arm and the end of the push rod that created it.
You can use many things to repair the surface of the rocker arm. I used a piece of stainless steel shim stock I had laying around.
A ball peen hammer and a block of wood for an anvil was used to match the concave shape of the rocker arm.
Then it is attached with super glue. I put a bit of grease on the square of stainless.
Reassemble and the fogs will turn off again!
This fix will also work for Neons and PT Cruisers.
For the metal filler piece, I cut a small square out of a Pepsi can. The contour of the metal from the can was perfect for the worn out backing.
