I got my license!

I learned to drive our 1976 cj5 at 10 yo that we were the original purchaser of and still have then drove it to work 5 miles from 14 years old on until 1984 then I got a Chevy blazer. I drove up to the dealership with no license to look at it and they even wanted me to test drive it but I declined since I didnt have the license yet. Got the blaser for my 16 birthday and that weekend drove to Daytona for spring break since my birthday was alway during spring break. Didn’t get my first ticket until I was 50 years old. I love to drive.

That is so typical of the difference in things- I think on average the maturity level was higher at a younger age because parents allowed kids to do more....Here in the south the 12-year-old need to drive the truck so that the bigger guys could put the hay bales on the back...I’m sure there were guys that would let the kids drive the cars they would go fission and get too drunk- And I guarantee you if they got pulled over the police officer was probably OK with it. Commended him for being such a good citizen.

We live in a society that people are trying to have everybody’s covered and do everything perfectly and make sure everybody’s got insurance- At the same time we have more broken homes and less stability generally.

I've been driving 4 wheelers since I was 6, dirt bikes since I was 8, I drove cars on small dirt roads when I was 12, AND I taught myself how to drive a manual... and out of ALL my friends I'm the safest driver

when ever someone asks what my hobbies are I just say "I like working on/driving anything with an engine"

Time flies doesn’t it brother?

I always heard life was short but I didn’t know it was only 15 minutes-

Sometimes I’m afraid that by the time we figure out why were here we don’t have any time left-

I feel like by and large we are all here to help each other make it - That does not take serving higher a power out of the equation, But if there is a higher power I think it lines up with it.

I’m proud of this kid for learning how to do things and getting his license and getting on with life - I know of a kid right now that just got his license at 18 and he is behind the curve in maturity and A lot of other things - Kids That do what this kid has done I think learn to fend for themselves earlier- When you’re knee-deep in mud in a creek on Saturday and you got to get that four wheeler home or dad’s going to kill you It builds character. My definition of character is getting things done when the going gets tough - That is part of it.

We just lost an adult worker who threw in the towel over a minor adjustment on a project and this guy and his teammates were making an incredible Income - I had seen this in his character and I knew this was coming.

Now he wants to come back and I’ve got somebody doing the job that is knocking it out of the ballpark and not crying.

There is a correlation to all this- You show me a young man who learns to survive and I’ll show you a better adult later.

I didn't get my license until my 17th birthday, parents thought I was 'too irresponsible', pfft, I showed them, before the ink was dry on it I slid off the road at a high rate of speed on a bend, missed a phone pole by a few feet & knocked 3 pine trees down with my buddy's mother's VW Rabbit after a night of heavy drinking, to this day nearly 40 years later I still cannot believe I didn't kill myself and my dumbass knucklead buddy that was sitting in the passenger seat next to me after having let me drive - God apparently does love drunks and fools.

But don't test that theory

And a lot of us older drivers know of others that have had setbacks in the lives of our family and friends.
Please, please, please don't drive impaired. It's not worth it.
I don't have Grandparents (in separate incidents) because of the other drivers Vehicular Manslaughter conviction(s).

That is a post I want to “like” and don’t want to hit “like” out of respect. Really makes me sad to hear that. I think from 1970 to 1980 we lost six times more Americans from impaired drivers then we did soldiers during the Vietnam war.

I’m really glad I haven’t always gotten what I deserved.
