I purchased a rear Dana 44 to rebuild. It was pretty rusty all over. As I was cleaning the hubs of the axle shafts with brake clean to clear off the grease and oil to take to get new bearings put on, I was expecting surface rust, but instead behind the crud were shiney machined surfaces. Clearly these axles are not the originals, so I was wondering if there is some kind of indicator the might say there are chromoly or stock replacements.
