This. I drive by a lot of stock TJs on the streets. Minimum BB and 31s needed to look better. The Jeep body and tires aren’t proportional in stock form. IMHO, 32s on 2” are a perfect size for TJs appearance wise.

Funny this should pop up. I love my TJ, but I really like the look of stock XJs, too.
I'll occasionally peruse used four door XJs for fun. If I bought one, I'd get a lift and new tires. Beyond that, I'd try to keep it as close to stock as I could. There's some absolutely hideous looking XJs out there with mods that are XJ specific, but just don't ... look right.

Man I am the opposite. I see stock TJ LJ and I think those are ugly as sin and it would brake soooooo much work to make it a good wheeler. I LOVE wheeling my jeep and I also love top down drives around town but I like it because it's my creation. Stock is bought. Boring.

I learned that lesson long ago, every one has their own desires what they want to do with a vehicle. I knew from past experiences not to stray very much "off course "with my jeep-- because I pretty much like how the factory puts out 99% of vehicles. Mine is bone stock, no lift with 31's and wont be changing ( maybe a winch-- maybe ) If i was going to do a lot of off road / wheeling I would buy another one , cheaper , wouldnt care much about the condition except that it would be road worthy / street legal and then mod it

I bought my Jeep new in 2006, After a couple years, I put a 2-inch spring lift on it and 31s. I wanted to move up to 33. , but after dealing with death wobble for the past year, I'm sticking with 31s for my next set of tires, especially since it's my daily driver.
I’m a purist and still love the look of an old Willys CJ5 in stock form with steel wheels. I certainly appreciate the TJ in stock form and how capable it is. I enjoy taking road trips in mine, so I like to keep it as close to stock as possible so that parts are easier to come by in case of a breakdown. They are all fun in their own way, so it’s whatever makes you happy.
I recall going to work everyday in my brand new Jeep and the guys on a daily basis giving me crap about putting some more meat and a lift underneath it. I just started making payments and my intent was to drive the stock tires off of it first, then address things like that. Every. Single. Day. They would arrive in the morning, see my Jeep and give me shit. Go to lunch, return, see my Jeep and give me shit. Nonstop. But they understood. 
Numerous folks have said this, but what the heck, I'll jump in. I've built several jeeps and my favorite, so far, is the '99 I just sold. Although it went through a couple iterations, the one I landed on was the best. It was wrapped in body colored Savvy and Genright aluminum armor. It rode on 1" H&R springs, a 1" body and motor mount lift, and stock Moab 245/75R17 tires. It was an absolute joy to drive. I miss that Jeep, and the buyer got a fantastic deal!

I am decidedly in the "whatever makes you happy" camp. It's your Jeep and your money.
Personally I love the look of my stock Rubicon and have no plans to ever change it. I'm obviously in the minority here but for me I just like my Jeep the way it is. I like to drive it around town, some mild trails, logging roads and such. I like the roof down at night and the manual transmission. I don't have the time or the desire to join up with a club and go wheeling, although I see the appeal. It's just not for me.
So yeah, whatever makes you happy.

I'm with you here. I think the LJ in stock form is butt ugly! However, you have to see past that for what the potential is. Like you, I made mine what I wanted it to be and, more importantly, what I wanted to wheel with.

Makes me happy with my decision to stay with 33” and 2” OME lift. The big lifts seem like they would be fun for a day but a well proportioned stock look TJ still does it for me.

The only thing I would change is going to 4.88 gears instead of the 4.56. At least the modifications that I've done to it. There are still a few leftovers from the PO that will change at some point.

It's worth staying stock forever! My two jeeps are still stocks but the 31" tires. People are so amazed how original they are!
