Just installed a double din radio kit, had to do alot of cutting and taking it On and off a bunch of times. I messed with it for a couple days til I got it perfect. Had to put spacers behind radio and heater controls. then to get it tight At the top, had to forgo the screws and use 30 lb Velcro. Oh had to drill small hole where ashtray was and put screw down bottom

I keep hearing differing experiences, although most seem to agree that some spacers are needed with the HVAC controls. Mine awaits as well, once I get my new radios (CB and stereo) in hand.

That’s the first time I ever posted pics. I put It together without spacers and screwed the top in. I was seeing gaps and it was sunken in a little, so I had to get creative

I have slider style hvac controls and mine was a pain in the ass. I think everything behind the bezel is different on earlier models. Not a lot, but enough to require considerable tweaking.

I had to cut the sub dash horizontal out but it fit like a charm after that. No spacers and no fiddling with the HVAC controls. In fact the 10 minutes it took to carefully cut out the dash was the most time consuming.

It was a skin peeler to take the security bolt out of the back of the stock head unit. Reaching up through the glove box opening was the most difficult part of it.

To get the unit at an angle matching the bezel I just tighten the screws between the head unit and the plastic flanges that come with the Metra Kit to barely snug. I put it all together and then gently moved the unit until it was aligned... pulled it out and tightened the screws down and put it together again.

I installed the Alpine ILX-650 which is less than 1/2 as deep as typical head units because it doesn't have a disk player. It also allowed a great place to zip tie all the wires into a nice little bundle behind the unit.

I used this video as a guide. He was installing a Pioneer head unit and did have some difficulty getting it to align.
