Is it worth adding a SYE?

With only 4.5 of lift and 33's, is an SYE worth spending the coin on right now? Have no vibes.

That's what I did...but I was planning on headed towards 35s. That and I had to cut the 1" square tube the PO used as a drop spacer for my skid plate to get the bolts off...had to replace the nutserts too.

And it's not just a SYE... it's a driveshaft too and if it's a super short then it's also something for your speedometer. And it also might be at the least lower rear control arms for pinion angle. Oh, and a cable shifter for the transfer case after you can't get the linkage to work right.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it…

That said, 4” of spring lift would usually cause vibrations. You may develop vibrations in the not-too-distant future once your U-joints suffer premature wear

I have 3.5 spring and a 1" body lift with a 1" MML. No spacers under the belly plate and have never had an issue. Was at least planning to replace the U joints while it's on the lift

I tried to do a 4" lift w/o adjustable arms, was a definite no-go for me. If you get >= 4" you should be planning on SYE, driveshaft, adjustable arms. Or a TC drop instead, I guess.

I'll also add that I wouldn't really describe what I had as vibrations. Honestly, it felt more like the jeep was always in the wrong gear. I added the adjustable arms with the correct pinion angle and everything was great again. I realize that's a weird way to describe it, but it's what I've got.

Your 1" MML is why you're not getting vibrations with your 3.5" suspension lift. Since you're not getting vibrations I'd leave it as-is.

If you replace your driveshaft u-joints avoid store brands, I'd go with the Spicer 5-1310x u-joints which are a significantly stronger/more durable direct replacement for the base-level Spicer u-joints the factory installed. If you want to also replace the u-joints on the front axles I'd go for the Spicer 5-760x which is also a significantly stronger more durable direct replacement.

Thanks f

Thanks for the part numbers. Ordered!

Also looking underneath, there is a dry oil patch on the floor board, looks like it was slinging oil from the T-case seal at one time.. Dirty but not wet, wonder if PO replaced the seal or if it's intermittent??

Clean it off and see if the dirt is stopping a leak.

Freshly greased U-joints will sling grease like that, leaving a mess.

LOL with questions like that, I hear a Tummy Tuck in your future :-D
