So I decided to replace the plugs on my new to me 05 4.0 TjR with 112K miles. I bought Autolite APP-985 plugs.
PO apparently installed Autolite XP-985 plugs at some point and I suspect they have less than 100K on them. I checked the gap on the old ones and one was @ .035 the rest ranged from .040 to .048.
My question is the side electrode crater. Is this normal for an iridium plug that they claim to get 200k miles? Do you think he gaped them correctly or is it just from normal erosion?

With the waste spark system, 3 will wear the center electrode, 3 will wear the side electrode.

However, there should have been a platinum puck there. The have worn away and it's now eroding the side electrode.

Normally it would take 100K mi plus for that to happen.

The recall was only for some bad gears. Even if they replaced the OPDA, it was with another one of the same bad design. If it says LDI on it, you need to pull it and check it for binding.
