I wanted to mount my ipad (for mapping gia/onX) trail use above the radio/hvac vents. I don’t have a cage with the cross bar above the dash (yet) and I couldn’t find a suitable mounting point. I pulled the narrow dash section off (near the windshield) and found a couple studs with nuts that I assume are hold in the dash structure in place. These studs had enough threads exposed that I figured I could screw a “standoff” onto that would allow me to make a “mini cross bar”.
I machined a couple ½” OD aluminum pcs to a suitable length and drilled tapped them to fit the studs. I had to notch the dash plastic pcs to clear these studs (see pic).
I printed a couple end pcs that would fit over a ¾” bar and then screw into the standoffs. I notched the bar to allow the screws that screw into the standoff prevent the bar from rotating. I used an old 67 designs mounting bits to mount the ipad holder (I printed the holder as well) its plenty sturdy and doesn’t
bounce around.
