Jerry ran away to preserve his image. Post this as a sticky.

That said, this is my favorite Jerry / power steering photo.

To be fair, I don't know anyway to have prevented that failure. The pressure from the fluid puked the snap ring out of the groove and let the end cap go bye bye. If you've ever pulled that particular snap ring or put it back, it leaving was pretty amazing that it could happen. The new big bore PSC steering gears use a very similar set up with a much higher pressure and we never see that happen with them or even other Saginaw gears.

Jerry had a lot of good advice, and some that wasn't so good - just like everybody else. He could be a bit pedantic at times, but so can I. I enjoyed his posts, even if I didn't always agree. Pretty much like anybody else. I miss him.

The difference is, everybody worships him, and he refuses to accept that he’s wrong when he’s wrong. This results in all the blind worshippers receiving bad advice at times which they still accept as gospel because of who he is. He refuses to change his views when proven wrong and they don’t know any better because they trust him over anyone else.

Ultimately it’s the fault of both parties, not just jerry. He should be a bit more open minded when being corrected (at least hear the other side out instead of defiantly refusing to listen to anything from anyone), and the people who blindly follow him shouldn’t single source who they look to for information.

Bingo, It's on us to provide impeccable advice so we don't hurt others...and to back our positions up with valid reasoning (rather than entitlement). We will all fail this standard along the way, but putting in effort to get it right is how we grow and become more useful to others.

I've talked to multiple folks who have had the same issues with him on the trail and in the forum. He doesn't listen to others because he thinks he knows it all.

But, what he hasn't figured out yet (in his 75 years on earth) is that we are already dead the second we stop learning.

No matter what advice you are seeking you should never take 'the gospel' from just one source. I always get answers/solutions/advice from multiple sources to see if they all align in some way that makes sense. I think thats the smart approach to any problem.

Argued with 10 different people including Blaine on a thread about removing the transfer case that an external torx E10 socket is needed to remove the transfer case. Has made this statement for years and it was the first time being challenged on it. Nowhere on the t-case or attaching the tcase to the transmission is there an E10. There is a 12-point 10mm to split the case halves, and there are two E12s attaching transmission to engine, but there are 100% no E10s. Nope, wouldn’t listen anyways. “I know for sure there is an E10”….yada yada. The story never changes.

There is a problem with that method. There are lots of issues that you can try to find an answer to and of 20 or so folks queried, 19 of them will give you the same wrong answer and 1 will give you the solution you need. Your committee has a consensus with one dissenter. Good luck.

Your challenge is figuring out who to listen to.

It's a common occurance on a lot of forums and something we all need to be aware of as we get older. For me it serves as a reminder to not let myself fall into that trap. It's OK to be wrong sometimes, and it's like Mike said in post #13 "we are already dead the second we stop learning"
