Keep it running...

I see the theme of everybody talking about removing the electronics, but unless we are living in the end of days, you can buy aftermarket fuel injection distributors, and such. Just because you cant get something from Chrysker, therr is always Jegs and Sunmit.

I personally would drop a V8 in mine when the time came, but it at the very least would be fuel injected.

Just because you may not be able to get certain electrinic you will be able to wotk around it.

Most factories sell there tools and r and d to aftermarket companies too, that is why there are still so many aftermarket cj2a parts still available.

My boss has a 1946 MB. He's kept it going by swapping in a 4.3L V6, stole stuff from GM, Ford, and other makers to get what he needs to keep it going. It currently is on 35's with beadlocks, and he daily's it. Drove to the Rubicon, ran the trail, and drove it home. So, if he can keep that pile rolling that long, it should be a piece of cake to keep our TJ's on the road.

I would want to keep it fuel injected so high elevations back to sea level is not a problem- I am old enough to remember trying to start and keep running my old carbureated Ford Torino at 9500' (she was tuned for sea level).
I will say though that an acquaintance of mine tuned a jeep to run on 85% ethanol for the Pikes Peak run a few years back-and it won hands down with the extra HP and superb tune- but he likely tuned it for an average elevation of 9-10,000'-a lot different than going sea level to 14,000'.
