This is the possibility I dread on any new repair as you mentioned: 'If I get stuck, I have a bike and another car to drive, but the job looks pretty easy. Of course something will go wrong.' There are repairs I have done in the past where I have experience, the right tools and the right tribal knowledge most repair manuals lack. I have no problem doing these repairs but venturing into a new area has to be weighed carefully. For example, snapping the head off a steering knuckle bolt can turn an easy job into a nightmare the shade tree mechanic is not prepared to handle. A well equipped shop has all of the equipment to handle these 'oh shits' when they occur. Bearing presses, lifts, specialty tools, torches, hydraulic presses, etc. are right at their finger tips. I have enough experience to anticipate what can possibly go wrong and plan accordingly.
