I need some recommendations for cheap and lightweight tire chains or cables for 37" tires. I don't care how well they work--I live in southern California and rarely see any snow (forget mud-it's PITA to clean!). I just need some that will comply with local road requirements while on my way to the trails. I don't like the idea of carrying heavy chains everywhere on my little Jeep, but super-expensive cables don't seem to make much sense either. I'd probably never install them, and the worst I might have to put them on for a few miles until I'm off the road or snow.

I carry chains because I have a client in Lake Arrowhead. Though I carry them in my DD, a 2WD Ford F150. Cables aren't less expensive?
Usually in a built Jeep, they will rarely stop you for chains. Even when everyone else has to stop, they will wave the legit 4X4's through. They'll only make you stop if it's really nasty. Always good to have them though.

42 years of driving in the California mountains and I have NEVER been asked to show chains on a 4WD vehicle. Just sayin'

There's a number of threads around this and the general consensus has been something along the lines of "you probably shouldn't run chains on a TJ." I know that's not helpful, but its what I see every time a thread comes up. Not sure of CA laws, CO requires 4x4 OR chains, and tread depth is checked.
I've thought about it in CO so I can get up a narrow state highway to snow shoe and hunt as far away from the most people as possible in rougher conditions. Ultimately have decided I don't need it. A better choice would be to grab some cheap rims off CL and get some snow tires. This is only a solution for folks who don't wheel in the winter months.
Unrelated, not excited to find out how much I'd have rather had 33x10.50s over 12.50s when sloppy roads appear this winter.

They fit my 35x12.5 tires well and provide great all-direction traction in most any conditions. I suspect they make a set for 37s as well.
They aren't the cheapest or the lightest though.
