About 6 months ago I had the speedometer gear on the speed sensor grenade. Immediately after that it started stalling when driving and coming to a stop. This last month a shade tree was swapping my transfer case out and was supposed to move my SYE from the old to the new (too hot for me to work outside and do it myself). He ignored my verbal and written instructions and stripped the internal gear out and once again no speedo. Once again vehicle started stalling. Just replaced the inner speedo gear and vehicle no longer stalls. If your speedo gear is not turning and your sled stalls, you have been warned. May be coincidence, but I think there must be a digital link.

Had the same thing just happen on ours! Check engine light-> bad Speed Sensor code-> vehicle stalls when stopping. Just replaced the sensor and.......speedo is still inop and the vehicle still stalls when slowing down. Maybe the gear in the t-case broke... more troubleshooting.

When the speedometer no longer works after having removed/replaced the speedometer gear housing, that often just means the housing was not rotated enough/positioned correctly so the speedo gear fully engages the pinion gear underneath. The speedo housing is cam shaped so as you rotate it the speedo gear moves closer to/further away from the pinion gear.

Come to find out the problem was the new speedo gear I bought to correct the speedometer for the 33" tires. It appears to be too small to make contact in the transfer case. Seems it is the wrong part even though I ordered it from Quadratec and their website says its correct. Easy fix.
