LJ Purchase Advice

Had it checked out personally by a 4x4/jeep specialist. Guarantees frame is in excellent condition. Suggested to get fenders and floorpans fixed asap though. Interior plastic trim also has some rattling, will look at same time as floorpan rust removal.

Some things do need work though:
- Front brake rotors & pads are worn
- RMS leak
- Significant play in ball joints
- Clutch pressure plate(?) is worn
- Full fluids flush

I think I will be going ahead with this and get this worked on over the weekend! Will pick up tomorrow morning and drop off to my guy.

Going to negotiate a lower price after that check. PO was priding himself on the rear brakes...but front are completely worn out, and with the RMS leak I think I can get it quite a bit lower.

Easy list to repair, and if the RMS is only a minor leak probably not worth the cost to repair. Do you know what engine oil is in there?

What did the specialist say about that extra hole in the skid plate, and the different bolts used?

Not sure, but I'll be picking up a Fram Tough Guard filter and 5w30 for the winter.

He said, one of the PO's obviously did some work there and lost the bolts...the extra hole he said it was concerning but no damage has been done as of yet to the frame thankfully. Suggested to replace the skid plate and bolts.

I'm just going to have peace of mind and get the RMS, Oil pan & valve cover gasket replaced at the same time.

Congrats on the new purchase. No need to rush some of the repairs.

My Jeep had, and still has, a RMS leak. It was like that when I bought it. I replaced the valve cover gasket one evening, but continue to live the with the RMS leak. Although I place a piece of cardboard under my Jeep to catch the drips, I haven't had to add any oil between oil changes every 3000 miles.

I keep planning to replace the RMS over the winter, but other projects seem more pressing.
