Lug Nuts

I had these DC-2's mounted today. I am a little concerned by the tire shop managers comment. The center hole was larger than the hub and had no spacer. He said the rim would be resting on the bolts. I called Dick Cepek and they said just use a 60 degree conical lug. I said is that the stock lug? He said no. So I go to NAPA and we look at one. It's identical to the stock. I go back to the tire shop, I tell them that's the way it's supposed to be. He repeated that they'll be riding on the bolts. I had them put on. The NAPA guy said they were crazy. Is this is normal. Am I in any danger?

Stock size is 1/2x20 tapered. If that is what you have, you will be fine. My wheels do not touch the center hub either, no issues. Wheels look good, btw:emoji_thumbsup:

Factory wheels are hub centric which means their opening fits snugly over the raised hub which centers the wheel.

Most aftermarket wheels are lug centric which means the lug nuts with tapered bases are what center the wheel. Lug centric wheel hub openings are larger than most hubs so the wheel hub opening doesn't rest on the hub.

Either type is fine, that tire shop just doesn't know as much about the subject as they think they do.

Wow, even the guy at NAPA thought they were crazy. And this is a well-known, pardon me, the best known shop in town (it's a small town of 11,000), has a great reputation. Cheapest in town to dismount tires, mount and balance, $72. Cheap doesn't always mean best! I thought, this is easy. Any tire shop should know this. Or at least look it up. Of course, I brought the wheels in. Saved $120 or more doing that... Thanks guys...

Nothing wrong with that. I'm pretty easy on mine for the most part.
